UK Lining Up New Trade Deals
Recent reports in the national press have suggested that a trade deal with Chile is expected to be signed within a few months, with the government already speaking to a further 30 countries regarding post EU relationships.
The new agreement which is being dubbed by the government as “the avocado deal”, due to Chile’s large quantity of the popular fruit, is expected to be the first of the new global trade deals for Britain.
It is understood that the deal would include Britain dropping EU tariffs on their avocados and wine, while the Chileans will drop barriers to whisky and engineering products from Britain.
UK trade with Chile is estimated at £1.8 billion but the government believes trade will grow hugely with the country as a result of Britain taking back control of its trade policy from the EU.
With the UK leaving the European Union in March next year, securing trade deals is an essential task for the government.
The highest priority for the UK will be a deal with the United States, although President Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the discussions to take place, it may not be the easiest of negotiations.
