HMRC Update Simplified Customs Procedures
HMRC have now announced further details of the simplified customs procedures that will be effective should the UK leave the EU without a deal.
The Transitional Simplified Procedures (TSP), which were originally announced early in February, should make the customs process easier for importers by providing a simplified entry format and delayed options for paying duty.
The most recent update from HMRC includes:
- TSP available at all UK ports, not just ro-ro ports.
- An extension of the date when the first supplementary customs declarations must be submitted, and any import duties must be paid, to 4 October 2019, with subsequent declarations submitted monthly.
If the UK leaves without a deal, importers will be able to transport goods from the EU into the UK without having to make full customs declarations at the border or pay import duties straight away, provided they are registered for TSP.
Companies will first need to register for an EORI number, then they can take the next step and register for TSP.
You can find out more information regarding TSP on the government website HERE. And you can register for TSP HERE.
If you do not currently have an EORI number then we suggest contacting us immediately, to discuss our EORI application service.
